Hi everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today we are looking at the SeaSucker rod holder for stand-up paddle boards and kayaks here at etrailer. So SUP fishing is getting more and more popular as people are using their stand-up paddle boards to go fishing. Now while it is a lot of fun, it does require a little bit of specialty gear because what do you do with your fishing rod when you're on your stand-up paddle board. You get one of these which is a vacuum-mounted fishing rod holder, that way you get to paddle and have your rod safe and secure while you get to where you need to be. This is a heavy duty but also portable rod holder.

It only weighs 2.75 pounds and it is from SeaSucker which means it has their very special vacuum mount. The rod holder has a vacuum cup that is six inches in diameter, giving a little bit more weight capacity compared to the smaller version. And this mounts to surfaces like glass, fiberglass, and most plastics. So right before you mount it, make sure to clean off the vacuum cup as well as the mounting surface and then put it on. Another configuration for this rod holder is if you have a boat, you can mount it to the sidewalls of your boat.

And the way to do so is you have to pull up on the rod holder and then it pops off just like that. Then you rotate this and then insert it right where you can see those teeth are gonna be in, and just pop that back in just like that. With waterproof lubricant and before you mount it to that surface, you're gonna make sure to apply moisture to the sealing edge of your vacuum cup. So once that is applied, you can then find a spot for it. So place it onto your stand-up paddle board just like that.

And then depress this button until it engages the vacuum. So pump that plunger until it is fully secured. You'll know it is secured once that orange band is hidden. So check this every now and then. If you do see that orange band, press that plunger again and then you know it's fully secure.

Whenever you wanna reposition your rod holder, just press this T-shaped button and that will deflate the pump and then press that again to mount it again. So really quick and easy. And once that is mounted right where you want it, you can then put your fishing rod in, and that's it for the install. And when you wanna reposition your fishing rod without moving the rod holder itself, you can just turn this knob and that will allow you to spin either forwards or backwards just to get the best angle for you. Now the mounting surface is very important. I tried this vacuum on different kayaks and I noticed that some of our other kayaks have a more porous or textured surface, and I noticed that it wasn't able to mount onto those. So this will work on most stand-up paddle boards but check your kayaks before you try it out. So I have some fly fishing rods and I realized straight off the bat that they we're not gonna work with this rod holder. Now this rod holder is ideal for casting or spinning reels kind of like what we have here. Now if you're going SUP fishing or fishing in a smaller kayak, you know your limits with what you're trying to catch. But as a baseline measurement, this has a pull rating of 120 pounds. Now if you do catch that big fish and it's pulling on your line, you are gonna want something that will resist that bending or collapse, and that's why it has these three support feet. So that's gonna help stabilize against that lateral pull. As it pulls one way, you're gonna have support on that end. Not only will this keep your rod in place as you paddle your stand-up paddleboard, but it will also keep it vertical as you dehook your fish. So still pretty useful. My final thoughts about this rod holder is I'm super impressed by how portable it is. If you are going SUP fishing, you're already gonna be looking at anchor points for your tackle box or your other more permanently mounted gear. This allows you to place it wherever you want quickly and easily since it does have that vacuum cup mount. If you want it on that end of your SUP or on this end of your SUP, or even on a different paddle board or a different kayak, it's quick and easy to do so. All in all, I think it works well. It has a decent pull rating. It is made of some pretty durable material. And you're gonna have a lot of fun with it.
